What is 4K TV all about?

Posted on 02.07.2015

4K TV is a hot topic in the industry at the moment. Everybody wants to know more about it and how it will change the entertainment experience. And it's not just about TV. 4K is changing cinemas, cameras, smartphones, tablets, PC games and computers. Basically anything that can display an image or record video is going to be affected by the 4K revolution.

So what's it all about?

Well, it's all about picture definition and quality. 4K TVs deliver 4 times more detail than 1080p Full HD TVs so that's 8 million pixels compared to 2 million pixels. So, if you thought 1080p was good then you're mind will be blown by 4K TV!

4K TV sets are available from most of the major players in TV manufacturing including Sony, LG and Samsung. In fact, these 3 companies have now set up a group call the UHD Alliance (Ultra High Definition) which will focus on setting standards and raising the bar even further for this new format.

Technology is always changing and it's easy to procrastinate and wait for the next new thing but at some point you need to make a decision and decide if now is a good time to upgrade your TV and enjoy everything that 4K has to offer.

Here are some compelling reasons why we think it is:

  • 4K TV delivers picture quality unlike any other TV on the market. The clarity and detail is breathtaking and it's actually hard to visualise how it could get any better.
  • 4K TV upscales programmes that are currently in HD so you can enjoy them in even more detail.
  • Netflix have already started showing programmes in 4K such as Breaking Bad and House of Cards. It's only a matter of time before more 4K TV channels emerge.
  • 4K Blu-ray discs are likely to be available from Christmas 2015 so you can enjoy some of the new releases in fantastic picture quality.
  • You can enjoy a more cinematic, immersive experience with 4K TV.
  • 4K TV really is state of the art. It's not a fad that will go away in a few months. 4K TVs are already selling well around the world so if you like to have the latest and best technology, 4K TV is a must.

If you would like to know more about 4K TV and what's involved with installing one in your home then please get in touch. We would be happy to help.
